East London at a glance

East London is perfectly situated as the gateway to the Sunshine and Wild Coasts, and despite its hustle and bustle remains one of the most appealing coastal towns in South Africa.

Much of East London has retained its old-time charm and laid back atmosphere, and while the locals all take this friendly demeanour to heart, the city certainly hasn’t stepped back when it comes to thriving in a growing economy.

A great deal of East London’s appeal lies in the stretches of white sandy beaches which attracts both locals and tourists alike. The beaches here are considered some of the best beaches in the world and the surfing spot, Nahoon Reef, also plays host to international surfing competitions.

The history of the town can be spotted easily while out and about, strong links to English and German lineages can be seen in any one of the several well-preserved 19th-century buildings dotted throughout the town.

Here residents will tell you that busy traffic hours are almost non-existent throughout the year, but when it is holiday seasons, it picks up slightly. Adding quickly that for the most part residents have grown accustomed to this and embraces this the way they would with everything else - a big East London smile.
