Bloemfontein at a glance

Known as the City of Roses, Bloemfontein is much more than just a stop-over on your way to Cape Town.

As the only city in a sea of grassland for kilometers in every direction, Bloemfontein is an oasis that well and truly lives up to its name. Bloemfontein translated literally means Spring of Flowers and with more than 4000 rose trees in Kings Park, thousands of bushes lining the streets and all of the uncounted bushes in gardens around the city it is a scene that needs to be seen to be fully enjoyed!

Despite being the Judicial Capital of South Africa, Bloemfontein doesn’t adhere to the typical hustle and bustle of city life. Instead, residents here enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle often found in smaller towns.

The city is littered with historical buildings, new developments, and enough green spaces to ensure residents get the best in culture, modern conveniences, and recreational activities.

Loch Logan Waterfront offers a series of restaurants, shops, pubs and entertainment, and the Oliewenhuis Art Gallery - a beautiful neo-Cape Dutch house with frequent exhibitions and sprawling lawns - has gardens under shade trees that provide a wonderful space in which to picnic or simply enjoy tea at the little garden tea house. The famous Kloppers is a must-visit - here you will find everything from school uniforms, sporting equipment, homewares - truly anything you could need all under one roof!

Other shopping facilities in Bloemfontein include Mimosa Mall, Northridge Mall, Preller Plein Shopping Square, Fleurdal Mall, and the Twin City Shopping Mall.

Bloemfontein has a host of world-class medical facilities throughout the city including Medi Clinic, Rosepark Life Hospital, Emoyamed Private Hospital, Universitas Private and Academic Hospital, 3 Military hospital, Busamed, Bloemcare, Pelenomi Hospital, as well as the Cureday and Citymed day hospitals and clinics.
