Paarl at a glance

A mere hour’s drive from Cape Town lies the beautiful town Paarl - a unique small town known for its beautiful landscape, excellent wines, and incredible architecture.

Paarl is the third oldest town, after Cape Town and Stellenbosch, in South Africa and has its roots firmly planted in its proud viticultural heritage - which can be seen in the way vineyards still grow in between residential neighbourhoods.

Paarl offers a quiet lifestyle to its residents, making it the perfect setting for growing families or those wanting to escape the busy city life. Here residents can enjoy early morning farmer's markets, a day at the museum or a round of golf at Pearl Valley Golf Estate or Boschenmeer Golf & Country Estate on any given day.

Families are well catered to in Paarl, with schools such as Paarl Gimnasium High School and Hoër Jongenskool - Paarl Boys’ High School located close to the suburbs of Lemoenkloof, Paarl East, Mountain View, and Denneburg.

Windmeul and Simondium are well known for its beautiful small holdings and farmland, which not only offers rich agricultural land but also the breathtaking beauty of the area!

Paarl is also home to the world-renowned Val De Vie Estate - one of South Africa’s most luxurious polo destinations and lifestyle estates. Here properties are beautifully designed to let the outside in as residents take full advantage of not only the beauty of Paarl but also the estate.

The famous Main Street is an ode to the history of this town with beautifully restored Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings and while you might be tempted to head out to one of the nearby vineyards, a drive along this 11km stretch will reveal many colourful restaurants, coffee shops, and tea gardens to spend an afternoon at.

Spend a day visiting the Afrikaans Language Monument, to learn more about the youngest language in the world or sample some of the best local olive oil!

Although Paarl is known as a foodie must visit, the more adventurous residents aren’t hard pressed for choices - with hiking trails, polo matches, and mountain biking trails right outside their doorsteps. You can also visit Paarl Mountain, where you will see the rocks that are the remains of granites which rose and broke through slate and sandstone formations about 500 million years ago.
