Fish Hoek at a glance

This historic coastal town of Fish Hoek is popular with commuters, retirees and holidaymakers alike - from the slow pace to the idyllic beaches this little stretch of coastline is the perfect place to put down roots.

For most of the permanent residents here, Fish Hoek becomes the place they put down roots for good - evident by the oldest house on the bay, named Uitkyk, which was the first sale to take place here in 1918. The fisherman’s cottage was bought by the Mossop family of Mossop Leathers, and is still in the Mossop family today.

Life here is peaceful, lived outdoors with a strong sense of community. There are quaint shops and restaurants that the locals love supporting.

The beach is the ideal family beach, with tame tides, small surf, warm waters, a playground, plenty parking, restaurants and cafes and the country’s top life saving club. There is also a strip of grass alongside the beach for picnics, and a small field which is used for casual soccer and touch rugby games over the weekend.

Only 30 minutes away from Cape Town ensures that many residents are commuters who prefer to live outside of the city. Fish Hoek is connected to the city by two road routes: Main Road along the False Bay coast, and Ou Kaapse Weg which passes over the Steenberg mountains.
